HMM will assist the building and management of Vadhvan Port, an Indian government-led large-scale project aimed at becoming one of the world’s top 10 container ports by 2040.
The port will have nine container terminals and handle 23 million TEUs yearly.
The port, which reportedly has a natural depth of 20 metres, is deeper than Nhava Sheva’s 15.5 metres and can accommodate HMM’s 24,000 TEU vessels while providing good access to India’s interior logistics network.
India’s rapidly increasing market has drawn global interest, and HMM is extending its services in the area, including India North Europe Express (INX), which will begin in February this year, Far East-India Mediterranean (FIM), and India-America Express (IAX) routes.
Through this MoU, HMM intends to develop its Indian services and increase its port business competitiveness.
A HMM representative stated: “We hope this partnership leads to strong cooperation for port development. We will continue investing in terminals to grow our integrated logistics business, a key part of our mid-to-long-term strategy.”
