Mud Cat just commissioned a brand-new MC 115D dredge at Hannibal Marina on the Mississippi River. The MC 115D will be used for annual maintenance dredging of the marina after the boating season as mandated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The MC 115D is pumping river sediments 1,687 ft. (514m) away to a dedicated disposal site nearby. Hannibal Parks and Recreation purchased the MC 115D after evaluating proposals from multiple suppliers of 8-inch (203mm) dredges and determined that the Mud Cat offer was the most beneficial to the city.

“Mud Cat employees and representatives have been wonderful to work with. They exceeded all our expectations from the time we requested a bid, delivery of the dredge, and the on-site training provided. Mud Cat appears to be in a category of their own when it comes to customer service and product reliability. The City of Hannibal received an elite piece of equipment it will be able to use for years into the future,” Chad Collier, Assistant Director of Central Services, Hannibal, Missouri Parks & Recreation.

Tony Mendez, Mud Cat Field Service Technician, trained the dredge operators for 5 days on site at the marina. Training included safety, maintenance, operational, and dredging technique. The city was able to improve the efficiency of their operation by using mobile anchor points. A skid steer on-site was used as a lateral anchor point that allowed the dredge operation to move to the next cut without using a rachet system to reset the anchor line improving overall productivity.

“I enjoyed meeting with the city personnel to assess their dredging needs and working with them to determine the best set-up that is both economical and efficient for their project. We are happy to see our Mud Cat 115D used by municipal governments like Hannibal, leading dredge contractors, mining companies, and environmental companies around the world, said Michael Young, Technical Sales Manager, Ellicott Dredge Technologies, LLC.

The city chose the Mud Cat 115D due to the products proven reputation in the field. In the past the city had hired out contractors to perform maintenance dredging operations at the marina. Investing in a portable dredge like the Mud Cat allows them to control the timing and frequency of their dredging operation and reduces their annual dredging budget. This savings will compound over the next several decades.

A skid steer is used as a highly efficient lateral movement anchor point allowing the dredge to quickly move to the next pass.

“We proudly welcome the City of Hannibal to the Mud Cat family and look forward to serving them for the next several decades. We appreciate the city’s business and confidence in our product and our people. Everyone at our company has a hand in the success of our products and this is something we do with immense pride,” said Ryan Horton, Vice President, Ellicott Dredge Technologies, LLC.
