HAMLIN, N.Y. — The $6.7 million shoreline resiliency project is now complete at Hamlin Beach State Park.
State park leaders say the upgrades repair damage caused by flooding during severe storms back in 2017 and improve how the area will handle future storm events.
Leaders say the upgrades will help stabilize the park’s shoreline, reduce coastal erosion, manage floodwaters, and dissipate energy from waves.
They also say some of those upgrades include rounded cobbles that direct flood waters to targeted areas, native species plantings that reintroduce habitat and stabilize loose shoreline soil, supplemental rip-rap in areas with heavy wave action, additional boulders that protect the park’s iconic fishing jetty, and the conversion of ten acres of upland lawns to grassy meadows.
