Guenther to step down as Houston port chief in August

Roger Guenther, who led Port Houston as it became a top-five US container gateway, will step down as its executive director at the end of the summer, with the port naming its infrastructure chief as his successor.

The port’s commissioners on Tuesday voted to appoint Charlie Jenkins, the port’s chief channel infrastructure officer, to be Houston’s next executive director upon Guenther’s departure on Aug. 30.

Guenther, who joined Port Houston’s crane maintenance department in 1988, has been its executive director since 2014. Since that time, he led Houston to become the fifth-busiest container port in North America, according to data from…
