Posted on June 27, 2022

Pointing out that dredging work of the Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) canal stopped some days ago, thus, resulting in inundation of several agricultural land in Kumbi Loutombi Loukol and Kumbi Saiton Mamang Loukol area, former vice-chairperson of Kumbi Municipal Council Wahengbam Bobbychand has urged the state government and department concerned to complete the dredging work at the earliest.

Interacting with the media on Sunday, Bobbychand said that the dredging work continued for several days and farmers were elated to see the progress.

However, the work stopped some days ago leaving a stretch of around 1 km incomplete and it restilted in inundation of several agricultural lands.

Many of the farmers are sowing seeds for the second time as their first attempt got ruined due to flooding.

Unless the water is drained off within a couple of days, many of the farmers will suffer loss of labour and money, he said, while urging the authority to complete the dredging work of the LLI canal stretch from the southern part of Kumbi Saiton Mayai Lambi crossing culvert to Kumbi Khuga River.

He also drew attention of the government for taking up necessary measures to develop a sustainable irrigation canal system which would also drain off excess water from the farm-lands in the area.
