BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Legislature unanimously adopted the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) $1.54 billion Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Plan for coastal restoration and protection.
The plan received unanimous support in both the Louisiana House and Senate, signaling a strong, bipartisan commitment to Louisiana’s coast.
“The unanimous passage of this measure shows that coastal restoration rises above politics,” said Gov. Jeff Landry. “Thank you to the House and Senate for supporting CPRA’s work and dedicated coastal projects. My administration remains committed to a united government for Louisiana’s future.”
The FY 2027 Annual Plan outlines a bold path forward, supporting 143 active projects and the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of 188 completed projects.
The plan’s highlights include:
- 70 projects in construction
- 65 in engineering and design
- 18 dredging projects, utilizing 52.6 million cubic yards of sediment to create or nourish over 11,733 acres of marsh, enhancing local habitat and reducing storm surge impacts
- Support for over 10,806 direct jobs and an estimated $636 million in labor income
- Implementing the next phases of construction of the River Reintroduction into Maurepas Swamp, the second-largest coastal forest remaining in Louisiana
- Launch of the Calcasieu-Sabine Large Scale Marsh and Hydrologic Restoration to sustain and improve the health of the Cameron-Creole Watershed, supporting local fisheries and reducing flood impacts for residents.
“This plan is another big win for Louisiana,” said CPRA Chairman Gordon “Gordy” Dove. “Protecting our coast means protecting our way of life and culture. These investments in our communities will strengthen our economy and create jobs while restoring the land that protects our homes and businesses. We’ve come a long way together, and this plan shows we’re moving forward with purpose by delivering real results for the people who call coastal Louisiana home.”
CPRA engaged stakeholders and the public throughout the plan’s development, hosting four public meetings across the coast and incorporating feedback from over 300 public comments into the final plan. The final plan was passed unanimously by the CPRA Board before moving to the Legislature for review and final adoption.
“This unanimous adoption represents the confidence legislators have in our coastal program,” said CPRA Executive Director Michael Hare. “The projects outlined in this plan represent meaningful progress toward restoring our coast, protecting vital ecosystems, and strengthening Louisiana’s natural resilience. The majority of the $1.54 billion in this year’s annual plan will support implementation, with $1.21 billion allocated for construction to strengthen and fortify our coast for generations to come.”
State Rep. Ryan Bourriaque and State Senator Bob Hensgens, also a CPRA Board member, lauded the passage of the FY27 Annual Plan and commended CPRA’s implementation efforts.
“The coastal program is one of Louisiana’s key investments,” said Rep. Bourriaque. “CPRA’s science-based vision has made Louisiana a leader in coastal protection. These efforts strengthen our coast and preserve our communities and economy. Thank you to my colleagues who support this vital program.”

Hensgens, CPRA Board Member and Chair of the Senate Natural Resources Committee. “This work shows what’s possible when innovation and commitment unite to protect our environment and economy. I’m proud to have advanced this measure and thank my colleagues for their support.”
Since 2005, CPRA’s efforts have resulted in:
- $21.6 billion secured in funding
- 83,298 acres of restored or protected land
- 396 miles of levees improved
- 71.6 miles of barrier islands restored
- 226 million cubic yards of sediment moved
