The Figueras shipyard is building the OESV for Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi. Designed by Salt Ship Design in Norway, it is designed to undertake a wide range of operations in the offshore energy industry, including inspection, maintenance and repair, construction, walk-to-work/flotel services, and cable-laying. Its versatile design ensures that the vessel can operate across multiple segments, providing the owner with a high level of operational flexibility.
The DNV-classed vessel’s design and technology will ensure low-emission operations, with battery-powered hybrid propulsion coupled with other energy-saving equipment such as heat recovery systems to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Equipped with a diesel-electric system with six variable-speed main engines, the new vessel has a total of six Brunvoll azimuthing thrusters – three 1,900 kW thrusters for main propulsion and three 1,600 kW retractable azimuth thrusters – and is ready for alternative fuels, such as methanol.
The OSEV is 120 m long with a beam of 23 m and will have accommodation for 180 people in high-standard daylight cabins. It will have a length between perpendiculars of 109.80 m, breadth moulded of 23.00 m, design draft of 6.80 m, and speed of 10.50 knots. The OESV has 1,400 m² of open deck space (including hangar).
Delivery of the vessel, the 23rd vessel the Spanish yard has built for Østensjø Rederi, is scheduled for second half of 2027. The vessel bore the name Edda Fjord when launched at the Spanish yard, having previously been referred to as Edda Freya.
