FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) — The City of Folly Beach is discussing beach preservation as part of its fiscal year 2027 budget.
Mayor Chris Bizzell said the beach is the city’s biggest asset.
“Following the beach is our biggest asset, so every year 60 percent of our budget is derived from local accommodations taxes,” Bizzell said.
The money for beach resiliency comes from taxes from hotels and visitors, which officials said is more than half a million dollars.
“This year, we’re putting away about a million dollars into that beach preservation fund. All that money will be just designated just specifically for renourishment,” Bizzell said.
