Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Hien affirmed that urgently allowing the extraction of dredged sand from the project would solve many problems.
Firstly, it addresses the bottleneck of the large amount of sand dumped from the project. Secondly, it utilizes the dredged sand as landfill material, generating revenue for the budget and preventing the waste of mineral resources.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Hien requested the project investor (Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works) to urgently develop plans to utilize the dredged sand from the Sa Huynh fishing port’s storm shelter anchorage.
The proposals must be completed before October 10, 2026, and submitted to the Provincial People’s Committee for consideration and approval by the competent authority for selection.
The project to build a sand barrier, reduce waves, and dredge the channel leading to the storm shelter anchorage area of Sa Huynh fishing port has been underway since 2023. The investment scale includes the construction of a 300m long sand barrier and wave reduction dike on the northern side and the dredging of the channel leading to the storm shelter anchorage area of Sa Huynh fishing port, with a length of nearly 2,000m.
Representatives from the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Works proposed a plan to utilize the sand dredged from clearing the channel leading to Sa Huynh fishing port at the meeting.
The project has commenced construction, completed, and handed over the sand barrier and wave reduction section for use since July 2025. However, the dredging and channel clearing section has only been partially completed and construction has been temporarily suspended since July 2025.
The reason is that the project has not yet determined the location and obtained a permit for the dredged sand disposal site from the channel leading to the Sa Huynh fishing port’s storm shelter and anchorage area. The total dredging volume for the entire project is approximately 497,000 cubic meters. Currently, about 60,000 cubic meters have been dredged.
