Although state Sen. Ray Cleary claims the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimate dredging for the Port of Georgetown has ballooned to $66 million, federal officials say that is incorrect.
Glenn Jeffries, chief of corporate communications with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, said on June 11 that dredging for the Port of Georgetown – one of five capital projects for a one-cent sales tax in Georgetown County – is still in the planning phase and there is no new cost estimate.
