The delegation from the European Union, led by Mr. Sven Simon, Member of the European Parliament, and Mr. Benjamin Oppermann, Policy Adviser to the EPP Group on Foreign Affairs and Security and Defence, visited the Port of Colombo during their visit to Sri Lanka on 24 and 25 September 2026.
The delegation met with the Chairman and senior management of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to gain a better understanding of the Port of Colombo’s key priorities, current operations and ongoing development initiatives.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the port facilities, including the terminal and Pilot Station, to observe port services and operations at first hand.
The visit provided an opportunity to gain a practical understanding of the Port of Colombo’s operational capabilities, maritime services and development programme, while also supporting constructive engagement on areas of mutual interest, regional connectivity and the future development of Sri Lanka’s maritime sector.
