Posted on August 31, 2022

Residents of Oyo State have urged the state government to embark on immediate dredging and expansion of rivers and waterways in the state

The residents noted that this is necessary to avert disaster and loss of lives.

Our correspondent gathered that some bridges and roads were flooded at the weekend.

One of the bridges in the state, Odo Ogun bridge was flooded as a result of heavy rainfall.

The development made it impossible for travellers from Ibadan to Eruwa to continue with the journey.

The residents have, however, urged the state government to dredge and expand rivers to avert disaster in the state.

One of the residents, Mr. Kazeem Olaiwon said many lives would have been lost in the night when the Odo Ogun bridge was covered by flood last Saturday.

He thanked God for protection.

Olaiwon then called on the state governor, Seyi Makinde to find an immediate solution to the river to prevent the loss of lives.

Another resident, Stephen Kolade narrated how a lot of the motorists were trapped in the flood before they were rescued.

He noted that there is an urgent need for the government to quickly move in to expand the river and save the bridge from collapse.
