Georgia’s Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said at the International Maritime Forum in Batumi that the state will invest $700 million in the Anaklia port project, Mtavari reports.
“We are developing Anaklia under the so-called landlord model, which balances the interests of the state and the private sector and creates opportunities for broad regional and international participation. The port will begin operations in 2029, with an initial annual capacity of at least 600,000 TEU and approximately 10 million tons of dry cargo. The state will invest $700 million in the project. With investments from the private sector, this figure amounts to $1.1 billion.”
The Ministry of Economy said that construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port is now underway, with two dredging vessels operating in the marine basin and work on the main breakwater in progress. The port is being developed under a state-led “landlord” model, with the Georgian government retaining full ownership of the core infrastructure. The port is expected to become fully operational in 2029 and strengthen Georgia’s role along the Middle Corridor.
