Seaside is working to restore its dunes following Hurricane Isaias, with a restoration project getting underway Monday.
Officials say the dunes did their job during the storm more than two weeks ago, but storm surge caused significant beach erosion.
To prepare for the next storm, Seaside contacted the Dune Doctors and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to determine what type of sand and fencing is needed to restore the dune system.
“The dune restoration is separate from the beach renourishment conversation. We are strictly looking at the ecological restoration of our dunes. The dunes are such an important part of the protection of our town and the area,” said Kevin Boyle, Seaside manager.
Boyle says the town is focused on maintaining community access to the beach while rebuilding a healthy dune system.
