The sediment removal or dredging of the Kidd’s Creek outlet at Barrie Marina is complete.

During a period of many years, a large amount of sediment within the outlet channel built up and collected within the marina, preventing fish passage and boat access to eight marina slips.

The sediment is naturally occurring sand and dirt that is picked up as water passes through the creek and flows into the Lakeshore Drive marina.

While removing the sediment, the city said it ensured all environmental regulations were followed.

The dredging in the Barrie Marina is finished, with the contractor removing equipment off-site and completing a site clean up.

The trail is expected to reopen by Friday, Jan. 20, once the contractor has left the site.

The city says it will be completing the sediment removal within the channel in about a month’s time and the trail will once again be detoured until that work is completed, which is anticipated to be at the end of March 2023.

The Kidd’s Creek outlet is located in the north portion of the marina, just south of the Spirit Catcher, close to Simcoe and Toronto streets.
