Dredging in Saugatuck Harbor, sand placement on Oval Beach will continue through July

Dredging will continue from Saugatuck Harbor to ensure safe navigation between Lake Michigan and the Kalamazoo River. Sand will be placed along the shore for about a mile from the Saugatuck South Pier southward through Oval Beach. Dredging is expected to be finished by mid-July.

SAUGATUCK, MI — The popular passage way from Kalamazoo River to Lake Michigan is being cleared for boaters, with sand redistribution to Saugatuck’s most popular shorelines.

This month, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, began dredging 68,000 cubic yards of sediment from Saugatuck Harbor to ensure safe navigation between Lake Michigan and the Kalamazoo River.
