MATTAPOISETT – Dredging of the Mattapoisett harbor will soon conclude, said Mattapoisett Marine Advisory Board Chair Carlos DeSousa at a Jan. 25 meeting.

DeSousa said that according to Mattapoisett Town Administrator Mike Lorenco, though the dredging project between Holmes Wharf and Long Wharf was still in progress, it is hoped that the sediment will be transported next week.

Dredge spoils need to dry before they can be transported, according to DeSousa. There will be no impact on the start of the season, he said.

“The good news with that is it looks like it will all be done before the season starts, so there will be no effect whatsoever,” DeSousa said.

It was unclear where the sediment will be transported to. The spoils are considered industrial waste and thus cannot be taken to the capped landfill in Mattapoisett, DeSousa said.
