A project to dredge the Missouri River at Tobacco Gardens Resort and Marina is making headway now that the permit to do the work has finally been approved by the Army Corps of Engineers. It was necessary for the Army Corps of Engineers to issue a permit for dredging because the land that Tobacco Gardens Resort and Marina sits on and the shore of the Missouri River in that area is all managed by the Corp. This restricts the actions that can be taken by both Tobacco Gardens management and McKenzie County when managing the waterways, land, and roads in that area.
Howdy Lawlar, chairman of the McKenzie County Board of County Commissioners, explained that he has been receiving an increased number of calls expressing public interest and concern over the status of the dredging project.
