Dredging at Mangaldan creek to begin after complaints

Posted on May 22, 2024

Dredging operations are set to begin at a creek in Barangay Anolid in Mangaldan, Pangasinan in June 2024 after residents following consistent complaints against massive piles of garbage, greenish water, and foul smell at the creek.

These issues are affecting residents like Virgie Malasan and her grandchild the most as they live right beside the creek.

“Mabaho ang amoy — mabaho talaga,” Malasan said.

Despite regular cleanups by barangay officials and 4Ps beneficiaries, residents said the problem persists due to a damaged culvert, preventing proper water flow in the creek.

During the rainy season, the creek overflows, causing flooding in nearby homes, such as that of Remy Lapore.

“Kapag nagkakatubig diyan, diretso ang tubig sa likod ng bahay ko… palaging bumabaha dito sa amin,” Lapore said.

SOLUTION

Barangay officials said they are aware of the problem and have scheduled a dredging operation in the creek and repairing the culvert to ensure proper water flow.

“May naka-schedule na site visit kami this week especially sa Purok Uno, kakausapin namin ang mga residente doon,” Marissa Honsayco, the barangay Chairwoman, said.

The project is awaiting funding approval as of this writing, with an estimated budget allocation of P300,000 to P400,000.
