Lam Dong – The dredging of La Gi port is basically completed, which has facilitated the entry and exit of ships. Many other ports are also being surveyed to deploy dredging.
Over the past time, many ports in the eastern area of Lam Dong province such as La Gi, Phan Thiet, Phu Hai, Phan Ri, Lien Huong… have experienced siltation, affecting the maritime channel and fishing activities of fishermen.
In particular, the prolonged siltation at La Gi port entrance makes entering and leaving the sea gate difficult, posing a potential risk of unsafety. Many fishing boats are stranded, and even shipwrecks occur, causing crew members to die.
Faced with this situation, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong province has issued a document requesting relevant units to urgently deploy dredging and clearing of La Gi port channel. From the end of March 2026, specialized ships have arrived at the La Gi port area to carry out dredging, receiving great consensus and expectations from local fishermen.
On May 12, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said that so far the dredging work at the La Gi port area has basically completed the main volume at the port area.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, since the dredging was implemented, ships have entered and exited the seaport more conveniently.
In May, the Management Board of fishing ports continued to request the construction unit to dredge and supplement about 10% of the total volume of the project to compensate for the volume lost during the pumping and suction process, serving the acceptance and completion of the project.
It is expected that in June 2026, relevant units will complete procedures for acceptance and contract liquidation for the La Gi port mouth dredging project.
Meanwhile, for Phan Thiet, Phu Hai, Phan Ri and Lien Huong ports, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed the Management Boards of fishing ports to coordinate with local authorities and relevant units to conduct actual surveys, determine the needs and volumes to be dredged at ports, channels for ships running and port areas.

Currently, units have preliminary data on the location and volume to be dredged in each area.
However, according to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, the biggest difficulty currently, in addition to capital sources, is also determining the location of the dredged material disposal site in accordance with legal regulations.
Because the volume of mud and sand to be dredged is very large, stretching across many ports, in the coming time, the department will continue to direct the Management Board of fishing ports to coordinate with functional agencies and local authorities to survey and propose a suitable material dumping site before completing implementation procedures.

Dredging and clearing the channels of ports is expected to help ships enter and exit more conveniently, reducing the risk of stranding and maritime accidents. Especially at Phan Thiet port, there is the Phan Thiet – Phu Quy passenger transport route.
This is also an important solution to maintain fishery logistics activities and promote marine economic development in the eastern region of Lam Dong province.
