Ster Engenharia Ltda is dredging the Porto de Pelotas channel, for CMPC, a Chilean pulp and paper company improving the safety and navigability of this route.
The transport of wood products by CMPC via barges between the Port of Pelotas / RS https://goo.gl/maps/1AfK9siiY6VnjQFw5 and its factory in Guaíba / RS removes the equivalent of 100,000 truck trips from the roads per year, with great gains for the environment.
Ster is using its IHC dredger, a Beaver 1500, for dredging the access channel of Pelotas Port (https://goo.gl/maps/1AfK9siiY6VnjQFw5), in south Brazil.
Recently Mr. Tarcisio Freitas, Infrastructure Minister of Brazil, visited the Guaíba plant to get to know CMPC’s logistics operation. He stated he was proud and happy to witness their logistics system working eficiently. He also stated this motivates the Federal Government to keep on working towards multimodality and investments in logistics, also mentioning directly investments in dredging.
He noted: “We have a project to make in Rio Grande do Sul the first private waterway in Brazil.”
