The Port of Dover has gained 10 hectares of new land following completion of a £53m ($72m) reclamation and infrastructure programme at its Western Docks.
McLaughlin & Harvey and Boskalis Westminster have completed Stage 3B of the Dover Western Docks Revival project, which began in 2024 and covered the Wick Channel, Tidal Basin marinas and Granville Dock.
Nearly 900,000 cu m of infill material was placed to raise the dock bed to around 0.5 metres below the existing quay walls. The works also included removal of pontoons and gangways, demolition work on existing quay structures including the North Pier and Ferry Jetty, and installation of new roads and utilities.
A substantial drainage system and stormwater pumping station were also delivered as part of the project.
The reclaimed land will be used for future development of the Western Docks and forms part of the Port of Dover’s longer-term 2050 masterplan.
