JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON — Lula Cole assumed duties as the equal employment opportunity manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District in December.
In her new position, Cole provides leadership and direction in creating and sustaining a diverse workforce and an environment free of discrimination at the district. She will facilitate the goals of the district’s EEO program by assisting senior leadership with policy development, complaints prevention, outreach, education and training programs.
Cole brings more than 30 years of law experience pertaining to federal contracting actions, employment, disability, reasonable accommodations as well as Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act compliance and investigations. Prior to coming to Alaska, Cole served as director of civil rights and compliant manager for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Finance Center in New Orleans from 2016-18. Before, she was an investigative supervisor for the U.S. Equal Employer Opportunity Commission’s Birmingham District Office from 2006-07. Cole interned with the Alabama State Attorney General’s office in 2005.
In 1989, she earned an undergraduate degree in business administration concentrating on logistics and procurement from Alabama A&M University, cum laude, as well as a Juris Doctorate from the Miles School of Law. While in law school, Cole served as president for the Moton Center Educational Foundation. She is a member of the Alabama State Bar, Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution, and the Association of Attorney-Mediators. She is a lifelong member of the Federal Asian Pacific American Council as well.
Cole said she believes that her experiences growing up, as well as her passion and empathy, enables her to relate to others well. It is her desire to make a difference in the community and in the lives of those that she touches. Growing up in a rural community she always wanted to advocate for the less fortunate.
She is a native of the Mississippi Delta. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling and enjoying nature.
