DEME Inaugurates Two Large Wind Turbines with Flemish PM

Posted on June 23, 2021

We are already the leading offshore wind contractor in the world, but this time we have been installing turbines a little closer to home – in fact at our HQ in Belgium. In another step towards achieving our goal to become fully climate neutral by 2050, two large-scale wind turbines were inaugurated in the presence of the Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon, the Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters and Alderman of the Port, Annick De Ridder. The special event took place on June 15 in celebration of ‘Global Wind Day’.

These two 3.5 MW turbines are part of the Wind aan de Stroom initiative and they will be joined by six more on the left bank of the River Scheldt. We have been running a small 100 kW turbine and solar panels at our HQ for several years, but given our ambitious emissions targets we now went a step further and teamed up with ‘Wind aan de Stroom’.
