DEME Advances Le Havre’s La Chatière Project with Major Dredging and Breakwater Construction Works

Posted on June 3, 2026

As progress on the La Chatière project becomes increasingly visible, members of the press were invited to discover the works currently underway at Port 2000 in Le Havre, France, including dredging activities carried out by DEME’s trailing suction hopper dredger Lange Wapper.

Together with our partner Terélian, DEME is delivering a new connection between Port 2000 and the Seine river network, an important step towards more sustainable inland shipping. Once completed, inland vessels will be able to access the terminal in all weather and tidal conditions.

Following the installation of the first Accropodes™ in April, construction of the 1,800-meter-long breakwater is now well underway, supported by ongoing dredging operations and foundation work. At the same time, approximately 650,000 m³ of material is being dredged to create the new 100-meter-wide navigation channel, ensuring safe and efficient vessel traffic. Part of this material is being reused for the construction of the breakwater foundation.

A technically demanding project in a shallow, tide-restricted and unsheltered environment, La Chatière showcases DEME’s longstanding expertise in dredging and complex marine infrastructure in Le Havre.
