Corps Awards Seepage Remediation Contract

Posted on March 11, 2024

The New Orleans Engineer District recently awarded a $4.4 million contract to address seepage remediation for a portion of the levee in Iberville Parish, La., as part of the overall Mississippi River Levees (MRL) construction project.

The contract, awarded to Circle LLC, consists of installing sheet pile cutoff wall on the east bank of the river in Iberville Parish, La. Construction for the MRL Plaquemines Point Seepage project is expected to include installation of sheet piles, clearing and grubbing, silt fencing, erosion control, fertilizing, seeding and mulching.

During construction, the all-weather access road on the crown surface will remain closed. Once seepage remediation is addressed, the road is slated to be replaced. The estimated completion is spring 2025.

The MRL construction project is a part of the larger Mississippi River and Tributaries project. The system is intended to provide flood risk reduction to the vast expanse of the developed alluvial valley from periodic overflows of the Mississippi River. The mainstem levee system begins at the head of the alluvial valley at Cape Girardeau, Mo., and continues to Venice, La., approximately 10 miles above Head of Passes near the Gulf of Mexico.
