The Tanzania-flagged Golden Star 1 sank about 6 km off Batam Island, Indonesia on 5 June.
According to the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) the 1995-built vessel sank at 10:30pm local time. “The vessel reportedly took on water and subsequently sank. All nine crew members were safely rescued by the Indonesian authorities.”
AIS track from Pole Star Global shows the 2,444 dwt vessel leaving the port of Singapore and coming to a halt in the eastbound lane of Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) of the Singapore Strait, in Indonesian waters. MPA said vessel traffic in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore was unaffected.
“The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is issuing navigational broadcasts advising vessels to exercise caution when transiting the area, and to report any sighting of containers adrift,” the MPA said.
The Golden Star 1 is operated and managed by Pancon Shipping and Marine trading between Singapore and Pasir Gudang neighbouring Malaysia.
MPA said it had informed the Indonesian authorities and is monitoring the situation, and there no reports of oil pollution in Singapore waters.
