Congamond Lake officials meeting with federal agency to plan dredging work

Posted on January 18, 2023

The effort to clear out the clogged Congamond Lake outlets of Great Brook and Canal Brook is taking another step forward this week, as members of the Lake Management Committee plan a kickoff meeting Jan. 18 with representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources and Conservation Service.

Lake Management Committee Chair Dick Grannells told the rest of the committee Jan. 12 that the NRCS will perform an assessment of both brooks to determine exactly how much work needs to be done on both outlets. Grannells and other members of the committee believe Canal Brook will need about 2.5 miles of clearing, and Great Brook will need 4 to 5 miles.

“[The NRCS] will go as far as they have to go,” said Grannells.
