A local company has been granted permission to dredge a maximum of 2,000 cubic yards of sand from the seabed at Great Harbour on Peter Island.

Romasco Holdings Limited plans to use the sand to restore the beach area of the outer island.

Cabinet decided to grant the company permission during its June 19 meeting. Cabinet, however, agreed that Ramasco must meet a number of conditions before moving forward.

The post Cabinet report of the meeting did not specify what those conditions are.

Peter Island was among the properties severely impacted by the September 2017 hurricanes. The island’s resort and beach area sustained substantial damage which, to date, has left the resort closed.

More than 200 staff members were laid off because of the closure.
