ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – The city of Isle of Palms says Marinex is now in its fifth day of dredging and is continuing to make steady progress for the beach renourishment project.
Crews are placing approximately 30,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach each day, roughly enough to fill nine Olympic-size swimming pools.
Crews are currently working in front of the Shipwatch area within a fenced construction zone of around 300 yards.
The city says beachgoers may walk around the fenced area and sand ramps are available for safely crossing the dredge pipeline to reach the ocean.
“In the coming weeks, several beach access paths near Seascape and Port O’ Call may need to close temporarily while crews remove sandbags and work along sections where the existing beach is too narrow for pedestrians to safely pass around the construction zone,” the sity says.
Clearly marked detour routes will direct beachgoers to the newly restored and widened beach, the city says.
