CEDA Sets up a New Commission for Dredging Management

Posted on June 16, 2016

CEDA is setting up a new Commission for Dredging Management and has already issued an invitation to members interested in joining it. The Dredging Management Commission (DMC) is being established to fulfill a need for discussion, innovation and questions on the management of dredging works in the broadest sense. As such it will bring together all stakeholders related to dredging works, and encourage open discussions which focus on mutually beneficial improvements and solutions for those involved.

There will be many topics within the DMC’s scope for discussion, just some of which will include: Dredging strategies for ports and waterways; minimum and maximum depth to dredge; estimation of dredge volumes; survey and control methods; contracting strategies per project type; physical and environmental characterisations; disposal areas; cost build up; stakeholder interactions and legislation development.

The DMC has the full support of both corporate members and the CEDA Board, and will aspire to achieve the same recognition and ethos that the CEDA Environment Commission (CEC) has earned for itself within the dredging community.

Be a part of the new Commission

The Commission will be made up of 10-15 members who will represent the full range of professionals and organisations that make up the dredging community. Members will be asked to commit to 6 days a year which will include 2-3 meetings held around the CEDA region. More details of the Commission’s scope, and how it will be governed, can be found in the TOR and the invitation letter below.

In the first instance, interested members should contact Anna Csiti, at the CEDA Secretariat (M: +31 6 5050 7336; E: csiti@dredging.org), by 1st July 2016. Letters of interest should be sent with a brief curriculum vitae and an outline of your reasons for wishing to join the Commission.

All responses will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from the CEDA Board and appointments will be confirmed by 1st August 2016.

The inaugural meeting is scheduled for 15th September at CEDA HQ, in Delft, at which the Commission’s strategy will be agreed. It will be formally launched on the same day at an event chaired by the CEDA President.
