The widening of Itapoá beach, located on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, is now 98% complete after reaching 8.6 kilometers of the planned 8.8 kilometers. Only 200 meters of shoreline remain near the Port of Itapoá, and the dredger Galileo Galilei is currently focused on deepening the access channel of Babitonga Bay.
The information was published by NSC Total on August 18, 2026, in a report by Bárbara Siementkowski, with data confirmed by the Port of São Francisco do Sul on the 17th. The dredging of the channel is 80% completed and is part of a R$ 333 million project aimed at preparing access to the ports of São Francisco do Sul and Itapoá for larger vessels.
Beach widening in Itapoá now covers 8.6 of the 8.8 kilometers planned
The sand replenishment work has progressed nearly the entire planned length. Of the 8.8 kilometers planned, 8.6 kilometers have already been completed, leaving the project just 200 meters away from physical completion of this phase.
