Brazil is preparing to offer contracts totaling 1.06 billion reais (US$210 million) in investments in the highway and port segments.
The largest contract to be tendered, totaling 714 million reais, refers to improvement works on a 104km stretch of the BR-364 highway in the state of Acre, reported the Ministry of Transport.
On another front, the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) finalized and sent to the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) the final project for the concession of the waterway access channel to the Port of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina.
The submission of the technical note containing the revised studies and the draft versions of the tender notice and contract marks the final stage of the process within the ministry, making the project ready for the publication of the tender notice by the regulatory agency. The expectation is that the auction will be held in the second half of this year.
The contract provides for investments of 350 million reais over 25 years for the execution of restructuring works, deepening dredging, and rock removal organized in two phases.
“The concession will provide predictability to port operations with scheduled dredging and will increase the draft to up to 16m, enabling the entry of 400m-long ships, the largest cargo vessels in the world,” said the national secretary of Ports, Alex Ávila, in a statement.
