Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy transport vessel White Marlin recently completed another successful transport. This time, the vessel made a voyage between West Africa and South America. Recently, two tugs and Micoperi’s pipe-laying vessel Seminole were loaded in Bonny, Nigeria. The vessel recently arrived with its triple cargo at the port of Bahía Blanca in Argentina.
The transport vessels of Boskalis’ Heavy Marine Transport division are often used to transport a single large, heavy cargo from one location to another. However, sometimes a project requires the transport of multiple (smaller) cargoes with a single voyage. The challenge in such cases lies in the float-on operation, during which the multiple cargoes are positioned above the heavy transport vessel’s submerged deck. The subsequent challenge is to keep everything in position whilst the heavy transport vessel refloats before the cargo takes position on the pre-installed cribbing wood.
