Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Black Marlin is currently carrying out a unique transport. The vessel is transporting the China Zorrilla, the world’s largest electric roll-on/roll-off catamaran ferry, from Tasmania to Uruguay. There, the China Zorrilla will be put into service on behalf of Buquebus as a catamaran ferry to carry up to 2,100 passengers per trip across the Rio de la Plata.
The 130-meter-long cargo was loaded onto the 217-meter-long Black Marlin on the Derwent River in Tasmania. There, the vessel partially submerged, after which the China Zorrilla was maneuvered into position by tugs and the vessel’s lines. The Black Marlin then refloated, and the cargo was sea fastened for the voyage to South America.
