When people think of Boskalis, they often think of large vessels and major projects. And rightly so. But we also pay close attention to the small – sometimes almost invisible – things, both in our daily work and in our commitment to a cleaner environment. A good example is our long-standing sponsorship of the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour, organised by the North Sea Foundation (Stichting De Noordzee), along the entire Dutch coast, alongside the many cleanup initiatives our colleagues organize at our projects around the world.
Thanks to the efforts of around 250 colleagues and their family members, a stretch of the Dutch North Sea coast is cleaner once again. During this morning’s Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour Family Day, they removed 218 kilograms of waste from the beach at Hoek van Holland.
In addition, during the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour from 1 to 15 August, many hundreds of volunteers already removed large amounts of waste from the North Sea coastline. Since the tour began in 2013, the total amount collected has reached nearly 120,000 kilograms. This year, the tour focused on a specific type of waste: small pieces of plastic. These fragments were once part of larger items of litter that remained on the beach for years, gradually breaking down into ever smaller particles. You only notice them when actively look for them. And that’s exactly what the volunteers did so successfully!
