On the North Sea, BoskalisāĀ subsea rock installation vesselĀ SeapiperĀ has started its first installation project in Europe. The vessel recently loaded more than 13,800 tons of rock in Norway, which was a special occasion for the vessel.Ā In recent years, theĀ SeapiperĀ has beenĀ mainlyĀ activeĀ inĀ Taiwan and Australia,Ā and nowĀ it hasĀ started a new chapter in Europe.
Interestingly, while this is the first timeĀ theĀ SeapiperĀ hasĀ set sailĀ to EuropeĀ in its current form, the continent is certainly not unfamiliar territory. Why? Because the last time theĀ vesselĀ was active in Europe,Ā it sailed under a different nameĀ āĀ FjellĀ āĀ asĀ a semi-submersible heavy transport vessel. In that role,Ā the vesselĀ transported dozens of heavy cargoes acrossĀ the world. Since then, however,Ā a lotĀ has changed. The hull wasĀ modifiedĀ toĀ reduceĀ resistance when sailing and maneuvering asĀ aĀ subsea rock installationĀ vessel,Ā the accommodation was upgraded, and the deck received a complete makeover. This includedĀ theĀ installationĀ ofĀ a moonpool,Ā aĀ fallpipeĀ tower,Ā andĀ an inclinedĀ fallpipeĀ on the aft deck.
Now, asĀ Seapiper, the vessel recently arrived in Europe, making itsĀ debutĀ on the continent. BoskalisĀ executes the projectĀ in a joint venture with DEME Group, installing many tens of thousands of tons of rock forĀ Equinor.
