Boskalis: A “cycling classic” for our BOKA Sherpa

Posted on July 27, 2026

Liège–Bastogne–Liège and Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne. These are two well-known classics in the world of professional cycling. Our oceangoing tug BOKA Sherpa is currently undertaking its own classic with the voyage “Rio-Whiptail-Rio.

The BOKA Sherpa is transporting a barge with so-called WAG manifolds from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to the Whiptail oil field offshore Guyana. After the manifolds are discharged by a crane vessel, the BOKA Sherpa will return the barge to the Brazilian city.

While top professional cyclists can complete a classic race of 200+ kilometers in six or seven hours, the BOKA Sherpa takes a little longer to complete this project. However, the BOKA Sherpa’s advantage is that it’s not competing with other vessels to be the first to cross the proverbial finish line in Brazil.

We wish the crew of the BOKA Sherpa a safe voyage and thank our client Saipem for the pleasant collaboration in South America.
