Wind-whipped sand created weekend hassles for motorists on Beach Street in Muskegon, which is temporarily closed for cleanup.

Beach Street between Beachwood Park and the roundabout at Lakeshore Drive is closed Monday, Nov. 7, for cleanup, according to a Facebook post by the City of Muskegon.

“There is a lot of deep sand causing vehicles to get stuck,” the city reported.

High winds pummeled the lakeshore over the weekend. The National Weather Service reported a maximum wind gust of 55 mph at the Muskegon County Airport around 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

That section of Beach Street typically closes for the winter season.
