The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, says the government will prioritise dredging the Sankana Dam to improve water supply and support irrigation under the Ghana Shea Landscape Emission Reductions Project. He explained that the intervention is part of broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions and restore degraded shea parklands across northern Ghana.
The project, being implemented by the Forestry Commission of Ghana in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Shea Alliance, aims to plant about 3.5 million shea seedlings.
Speaking at the Sankana Kalibi Ganlaa Festival, Bagbin noted that dredging the dam will provide clean water for both irrigation and domestic use for residents of Sankana and surrounding communities.
