Marine battery specialist will supply a 1.64MWh system for the RPA 8 electric retrofit and a 318kWh liquid-cooled battery for a new Damen dredger being built for UK Dredging
- AYK Energy will supply battery systems for two European workboat projects, including a new dredger and the conversion of a Rotterdam patrol vessel to fully electric propulsion.
- The projects use 318 kWh and 1,640 kWh battery systems integrated by Gebhard Electro.
AYK Energy and Gebhard Electro have secured two new marine electrification projects in Europe.
The first involves a new trailing suction hopper dredger being built by Damen Shipyards for UK Dredging, part of Associated British Ports. The vessel will use diesel-electric propulsion supported by a 318 kWh liquid-cooled Polaris battery system from AYK Energy.
The Polaris system is among the first of the type to be supplied following DNV type approval in 2025.
The second project will convert the Port of Rotterdam’s 25-metre RPA 8 patrol vessel from hybrid to fully electric propulsion. AYK will supply a 1,640 kWh PiscesA+ battery system, with Gebhard Electro handling electrical integration.
The conversion will support the Port of Rotterdam’s wider effort to reduce emissions from its operational fleet and could provide a model for electrifying additional harbour vessels.
