A public informational meeting concerning the dredging of Searsport Harbor and its environmental impact will be held Wednesday, June 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Searsport Community Building, 42 Prospect St. The Army Corps of Engineers and the Maine Department of Transportation will host this presentation. All are urged to attend.
Plans call for maintenance dredging of the harbor to restore the channel and turning basin. No maintenance dredging has been done since it was constructed in 1964, although the dredging project has been on MDOT’s list for a number of years. The proposed project calls for dredging up to 4,000 cubic yards of mixed sand and silt from a 7-acre area within the harbor.
