Latest win will see Arcadis leveraging global water expertise and digital asset management tools to support one of the largest sanitation companies in the world

Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, has been selected by Brazilian water and waste management company Sabesp to deliver two major strategic contracts in São Paulo. These projects will focus on enhancing water infrastructure and securing a safe, resilient supply for more than 28 million people across 375 municipalities.

Combining digital tools with world-leading expertise in asset management and deep-water treatment knowledge, Arcadis will be supporting the expansion of Brazil’s largest Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), as well as providing consultancy services for the planning and oversight of Sabesp’s investment in the Universal Water Supply and Sewerage Program.

This government-led initiative is intended to drive significant investment in the modernization and expansion of the nation’s water and sanitation infrastructure. With over R$70 billion expected in investments, the program aims to extend essential water and sanitation services to previously underserved communities, including informal settlements and rural areas.

Digital asset management tools will play a critical role, with Arcadis leveraging its Enterprise Decision Analytics (EDA) solution to optimize investment planning and project execution. EDA enables more informed decision-making by analyzing complex datasets, identifying trends, and assessing risks, ensuring the optimal allocation of resources. This approach enhances efficiency, reduces costs, and maximizes long-term benefits for public health, environmental sustainability, and social development.

The second contract focuses on the expansion of the Barueri WWTP, Brazil’s largest wastewater treatment facility. The expansion will significantly increase treatment capacity, benefiting approximately 10 million people. The project will improve operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support the long-term sustainability of the region’s sanitation system.

Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said: “At Arcadis, we have a strong track record of delivering large-scale water infrastructure programs where digital innovation and technical expertise drive real impact. Water security and public health are global priorities, and through our long-standing relationships with water companies like Sabesp, we are committed to delivering safe, resilient, and sustainable water solutions. With this latest win, we are bringing together expertise from across our Resilience and Intelligence business areas to help enhance infrastructure, protect communities, and create lasting benefits for millions of people across São Paulo.”

The collaboration with Sabesp strengthens Arcadis’ position as a global leader in delivering efficient, sustainable, and resilient water systems. The project team includes specialists in sanitary engineering, water resource management, and project management, drawing on global expertise managing complex infrastructure asset management programs for some of the largest water and wastewater companies in the world.
