Arcadis’ Canadian business has hired two new principals of urban design for its ‘placemaking’ practice: Craig Sklenar, based in Montreal, and Alfredo Landaeta, based in Toronto.
Sklenar (pictured, left) has 20 years’ experience in planning and design, starting with a nearly four-year tenure at EDAW (now part of AECOM). He became a senior planner for the city of Calgary before serving Stantec in Montreal as senior urban designer, team lead for urban design and, most recently, principal. In his new role, he is tasked with increasing Arcadis’ presence in Quebec and its transit-oriented development (TOD) practice across North America, connecting work between the transportation and real-estate sectors.
Landaeta (right) brings more than 30 years’ experience leading multidisciplinary projects in Canada and internationally, including leadership stints with HOK, B+H Architects, Stantec and Forrec. He dedicated the last nine years to independent consulting, operating as AL Urban Design.
Sklenar and Landaeta join a team that has delivered such projects as the Tunney’s Pasture Redevelopment in Ottawa, the Waterfront Strategic Plan for Barrie, Ont., and the Indigenous-owned Kʷasən Village development project in Burnaby, B.C.
“Craig and Alfredo bring tremendous insight, leadership and passion,” says Scott Arbuckle, Arcadis’ country director for Canada. “Their experience will be invaluable as we grow our presence.”
