Invests €28.7 million in two STS cranes and improvements for bigger ships at Levante dock

APM Terminals Valencia today celebrated the launch of two new Triple-E Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and the improvements made to Levante Quay to enable it to serve two large container ships simultaneously. Looking out over the quay from the terminal’s new maintenance workshop, the managing director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, Julián Fernández, highlighted during the event that the €28.7 million investment in the projects presented represents ‘a clear commitment to the port of Valencia, to innovation, sustainability and operational excellence in a market that is more demanding than ever’.

With Maersk Hamburg and Maersk Hidalgo operating at the Llovera and Levante quays during the morning, respectively, APM Terminals presented the different phases of the projects carried out to authorities, customers and members of the port community at an event hosted by Fernando Vitoria, director of Grupo Diario Editorial: from the arrival of the cranes in parts in September 2024, their assembly, transfer and commissioning, to the increase in the scope of the fenders to allow larger ships to call at Levante quay.

Once the details of the improvement projects for the call of mega-ships and the institutional speeches had been presented, Declan O’Sullivan, Managing Director of the Liebherr Container Cranes-Killarney factory, and David Cano, Division Director of Liebherr Maritime Cranes and Construction Machinery, staged the symbolic handover of the cranes, which guests were able to see in operation during a bus tour of the terminal.
