Antwerp and Rotterdam port authorities investigate bunker supply shortfalls

Posted on February 13, 2023

Consultancy CE Delft has been commissioned to investigate recent complaints about bunker fuel quantity shortfalls problems in the Port of Rotterdam and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.

“There are regular disputes between the bunker transporter and ships about the amount of fuel supplied,” CE Delft said in a statement, adding that it will try to get an objective view of the quantity problems.

The port authorities are also seeking CE Delft’s insight about how mandatory mass flow metres could solve potential quantity problems.
In December, the authorities at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Rotterdam detailed plans to shortlist a suitable mass flow meter system by the first half of this year, following an independent study by CE Delft that raised the shortfall issue.
