AGL advances key port expansion projects in Africa

Posted on June 30, 2025

AGL boosts oil, LNG, and mineral exports, strengthening Africa’s energy and trade infrastructure sustainably.

Africa Global Logistics (AGL) has secured €230 million to expand the container terminal at the Port of Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo. The project, set for completion by 2027, will double capacity to 2.3 million containers annually and support the country’s growing oil and LNG exports.

Expanding Pointe Noire’s capacity

The expansion is led by AGL’s subsidiary, Congo Terminal, alongside China Road and Bridge Corporation. The €400 million project includes a 750-metre quay, a 17-metre-deep dredged basin, 26 hectares of quayside, and 16 gantries. This upgrade plays a key role in Congo’s goal to reach 500,000 barrels of oil per day and 3 million tons of LNG output annually within five years.

AGL will participate as a Diamond Sponsor at this year’s African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies conference, highlighting its commitment to the continent’s growth.

Angola and Ivory coast

In Angola, AGL launched operations at Lobito Terminal, handling over one million tonnes of bulk cargo and 100,000 containers annually. A €100 million investment aims to make it a gateway for copper, cobalt, and agricultural exports via the Benguela railway.

Meanwhile, in Ivory Coast, AGL supports Phase 2 of the Baleine offshore development, which is West Africa’s first net-zero emissions project. AGL started manufacturing critical subsea structures at its Carena shipyard with 100 skilled local workers.

Powering Africa’s future

Beyond these projects, AGL is modernising Namibia’s Walvis Bay terminal and supporting energy logistics in Mauritania, Senegal, and Mozambique, reinforcing its role in Africa’s economic transformation.
