The Maldives has been nominated for nine prestigious titles, for the Indian Ocean category of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2024.
The categories that the Maldives has been nominated for in this year’s WTA are:

- Indian Ocean’s Leading Cruise Destination 2024
- Indian Ocean’s Leading Wedding Destination
Further, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has been nominated as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board of 2024.
MMPRC or Visit Maldives revealed that the importance of these recognitions by the international tourism industry cannot be exaggerated and that it mirrors the island nation’s position as an unparalleled tourist destination.
Further, MMPRC revealed that it also mirrors the island nation’s commitment to deliver unforgettable experiences to visitors from all over the globe alongside reinforcing the constant efforts of MMPRC to promote and develop the tourism sector of Maldives.
Highlighting that voting for the WTA Indian Ocean’s category will proceed through March 31, MMPRC urged zealous travelers and industry professionals to cast their votes in support of the Maldives, as every vote is valuable.

Maldives secured the title of the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards (WTA) for a consecutive fourth year at the 2023 WTA.
Maldives won four prestigious awards in the Indian Ocean category at WTA 2023.
Tourism was introduced in the Maldives in 1972. It has been 50 years since zealous travelers have been visiting the Maldives which has been drawing in visitors with its picturesque beauty for years.
The island nation welcomed 1.8 million tourists during 2023 and aims to welcome two million tourists during 2024.
