Construction of the new Marina de Gandia in Spain is scheduled to begin in September, following its official presentation at Foment. With an investment of €8 million, the project marks a development in the city’s efforts to modernise the Grau and beach areas with enhanced facilities for nautical activities and tourism.

The event brought together city officials, local business owners and residents to unveil the details of the marina, which will be managed by Alcara Infraestructures. Mayor José Manuel Prieto emphasised the marina’s role in revitalising the coastal district, citing the potential for job creation and broader economic impact. “This new infrastructure will be a fundamental part that will help us as a dynamising agent for El Grau and the beach,” Prieto said, noting that the project complements ongoing developments such as the refurbishment of the port sheds and the construction of the Oceanographic Institute.

The planned marina will feature 268 moorings, 163 parking spaces, a 1,440 square-metre headquarters, as well as distinct zones for leisure, nautical sports and maritime services. Plans also include general dredging, replacement of docks and jetties, and upgrades to accommodate larger vessels. The design incorporates solar panels and other sustainable technologies aimed at achieving energy self-sufficiency.

Alcara’s honorary president, Paco Herrero, described the presentation as a “very special day” for the city. He highlighted the marina’s role in advancing nautical and sports tourism and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to activities such as sailing and rowing.

The City Council has already started the approval process to ensure work begins on schedule in September. According to Prieto, the project forms part of a broader port redevelopment plan involving both public and private funding. Combined investments in the area are expected to exceed €30 million, which signals a transformation of Gandia’s waterfront into a multi-use space for tourism, recreation and commerce.

As construction begins later this year, the initiative reflects Gandia’s long-term vision to enhance its position as a tourist and nautical destination while generating new opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
