Grantham canal has begun dredging work which will allow boats to pass through for the first time in ninety years.
Long haul excavators will begin hauling out mud and silt from the bottom of the canal at Locks 15 and 16.
This will allow canal boats to travel from Grantham to Nottingham in a few years time.
The Canal and River Trust and the Grantham Canal Society are overseeing the work.
Karen Rice, one of the managers for the project, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: “It’s a really exciting milestone in the history of this canal.
